| Description | The village has a small clinic run by a nurse and an assistant working with very rudimentary means. They deals with about 20 patients daily, in many cases that can not be cured, for lack of means. The nearest hospital is about 50km away and there is no adequate transportation. To improve the clinic was with the help of a group of volunteer doctors with experience in the third world. This process also analyzed the need to improve their water supply infrastructure. For residents to get water in Maktau meant walking 15 km or more to reach a fountain, fill drums and transport them on foot or by bike. This meant twelve hours without food, under a scorching sun, waiting to fill the drums slowly. EU built a well, but did not finish the piping system and the gravity fed tank to actually get water supplies to the population. The foundation completed this project with the help of direct beneficiaries, ie the free and voluntary labor of the inhabitants. |
