| Description |
The North Pokot district is situated in the Rift Valley Province of Kenya, its main town is Kapenguria. It has a population of approximately 300,000 inhabitants and an area of 9064 km². Its inhabitants are the Pokot tribe who are semi-nomadic pastoralists. Their lives are spent caring for their cows, goats, sheep and camels, the staple food is milk, tea and some goats meat. About 25% of the Pokot engage in agriculture, depending on weather conditions in the area. In the plan, there was a children's bedroom, but did not have a separate girls' dormitory, sleeping on the floor of the classroom. This project was intended to give the girls a bedroom. Comboni, together with parents as partners, and funds collected from the 2nd Prize in the Magazine Solidarity Telva, built a dormitory for girls of the Pokot ethnic group who want to attend school but live too far away to return home daily. It aim is to cover the basic need for sleep, and minimum health conditions, thus encouraging further education. |
