To my mother

If my father was harmony, peace, serenity and wisdom, my mother was the life of the family, the nest where we all took refuge. She was vivacious, of unbounded vitality and great generosity. She devoted her life to us and she lived her life devoted to her family, overflowing with sweet gentleness and love at every turn. She was everyone’s confidante and she made any problem, big or small, her own. In doing so she always managed to comfort us from any torment.

Six months ago my father, Vice-chairperson of this Foundation, passed away and my mother could not bear the loneliness of living without her life companion. They had shared more than 60 years together and neither her mind nor her body got used to being without its other half.

The two of them complemented each other in such a way that we, as well as our children, were able to enjoy a marvelous well-balanced family where respect for others has always been our motto. That is the precious heritage that they have passed on to us and that is how we would like Africa Digna to be.

As I once read on a certain occasion:

“Death does not rob us of our loved ones; instead, it keeps them and immortalizes them in our memory. Life, on the other hand, does take them away from us; many times, for good.”

I hope to meet with them again someday.
